Just curious, but what do people think about paying for the full year at a time?

Without getting into various pricing structure discussions, I wonder if paying for a team for the year would help keep owners around. Essentially you have to reclaim your team prior to the drafts, which means like any Fantasy League you are in for the season or not at all.

The advantage as I see it would be the time people are most interested and gung ho is at the start of the season. The time they often leave is during another mediocre season, where they are looking at being out of it by June and having 8 months of payments until it gets interesting again - hence they may drop.

I think psychologically viewing it as a full season will keep more owners interested. It also would set up a specific time to add unmanaged teams - Launch Leagues could be set up to run to feed into this. Something like Launch Leagues start during the World Series and end by Feb 1; current owners have from the end of the playoffs to Feb 1 to re-claim their team; from Feb 1 to the Draft, owners can claim unmanaged teams. Once the draft starts the league is set for the year.

It should make things more stable, although it can't keep owners from abandoning their team. But I think seeing it as a year-long comittment helps.

There is a problem with cost - its harder for some to make a lump payment. But this could be worked out. Also, it should make the books easier for PB as they have a more clear sense of how much money they will have for the year.
