The Chris Young Trade
Wow...what an event this has turned out to be! Here's my final take on what happened. I manage the Welsh Green Dragons with my 11-year-old son. The Illinois Cubs are currently an UNM team but have a strong roster. One glaring weak spot for them is 1B. Chris Young is a No.5 starter on their current roster. We need some pitching. So the idea was that the Cubs would improve both defensively and with moderate production from Travis Lee. We have a depth of 1B talent. So we approached the deal objectively and thought both sides made themselves a little stronger. So we proposed the deal . I still think it would be a beneficial move for both sides. The deal gets approved and all seems well. Then some chatter starts about what a bum Lee is. I offered an opinion on why I thought the trade was approved. The next thing I hear is that the trade has been reversed and it was a mistake. My gripe is that Mike should have come to me and said something. He didn't consult with me about it. I don't think he would have allowed me to undo a deal with another manager without talking to the other side about it first. From my perspective, it looked like Mike was reacting to criticism about the trade. He has assured me since then that it is not. The issue was mishandled and that's my main beef in this whole matter. So it's over and that's it. I see Mike has also issued some guidelines about trades which might help people figure this very opinionated issue out. So keep those trade offers going, it should be a fun part of the off-season time. Now if we could just get a Rookie Draft list and schedule.
