People always tend to overvalue rookie picks. For every Miguel Cabrera, there is a Rick Ankiel and four or five other busts. Most trades require you know the circumstances. If I'm a contender and need starting pitching, I take the players. If I'm building for the future, I might roll the dice on a #1 rookie pick.
