Interesting Discussion
Its always interesting to hear folks perspective on the value of rookie picks. Some folks (Mike Douglass comes to mind) would probably give their eye teeth for a top lottery pick. Others aren't so sure of the value.
I think it would be interesting to see what people think the market value for an older but still potent hitter in terms of rookie choices.
Would you rather have Ken Griffey, Jr. or a top 4 pick in the draft? How about Jim Edmonds or Brian Giles? Maybe a rejuvenated Jason Giambi or a still powerful Jeff Kent. What if the hitter is 30 instead of 35+.
What if we are talking about old good pitchers instead? Johnson, Martinez, etc.
The specific names aren't as important as the concept. I think there are some owners that would prefer any of the names above to a top 4 rookie pick. And I bet there are other owners that would take the rookie pick over any of the players.
