I had excess PB value to cut

Posted By Tim A.

After projected cuts my team PB value was about 10-13 points over the cap and I needed to cut PB value. I still think I am a point or two over the cap.

I initially resisted paying that much for Rolen, and I hated trading both Lopez and Morris because it leaves me with only 4 viable starters for this year and likely only 3 viable starters next year. But when it became obvious that I didn't have any other good way to cut PB value and get quality (value) in return I felt my back was against the wall.

The Reyes / Rolen trade cut my team PB value by 10.9 points and I feel with Rolen I got a lot of future potential wrapped up in 1.646 PB points.

My other options weren't great.

One option was to trade Reyes for a FA#1 (that drops 6.9 PB points and requires more trades to get under the cap).

Another option was to trade Lopez and Barrett for Jorge Sosa and undisclosed draft choices which only cuts 5.2 PB points.

Could have tried to sell Glavine for a FA pick but I wanted him for this year and I never got to that option. (although it was in the back of my mind).

Other options involve cutting players... to cut 12 points I would have almost had to cut Broussard, Easley, and then maybe Barrett or Morris on top of it.
