Drafts
There is no such thing as a monthly FA draft in TR leagues... or so I have been lead to believe. I'm not in any traditional leagues so I can't say first hand. If there are no monthy FA drafts, then all of the drafts that you are looking at are yearly FA and Rookie drafts, which don't have the limitations on play that the monthly FA drafts in RT leagues do.
I agree with you about the new draft format. It has hurt the competitive atmosphere of the game tremendously. I also have some rebuilding teams where I no longer care if they win or loose. I barely pay attention to them at all until draft time.
When PB first revealed this plan to change the monthly draft format, they asked for our input. There was an active discussion on this board about it. Judging by the posts, people seemed fairly evenly divided as to whether this change was a good idea. However, the vast majority of the participants believed that a change should NOT be made mid-season.
In the end I was left wondering why they even asked for our input because they totally ignored the concerns that were expressed and went ahead with a change that most respondents felt should only be made during the off-season, if at all.
I was against this new format then, and I am even more convinced it was an ill concieved idea now. I say this even though I have two teams that are rebuilding and have only to GAIN by this rule change. It is infinately more important to maintain a competitive atmosphere in the leagues than it is to coddle incompetent managers. This format tosses 3 or 4 no-brainer rookie picks into the laps of teams who have low winning percentages regardless of the talent they have on their team already. It creates an apathetic mood and promotes LAZY team management.
I would really like to see PB come up with a scheme that rewards superior scouting and team management. If you are going to throw all the obvious rookie performers into the laps of poorly managed teams 4 or 5 times each season, then create a system whereby a manager who does his homework and makes a wise selecticon in the lower rounds can KEEP that player long enough to develop or rehabilitate him. The monthly FA drafts are very shallow. You either get a fantastic rookie pick or comeback player in the upper rounds or someone (prospect or veteran) who will have to be released when you cut your roster next spring.
In my opinion this new FA draft system isn't working, still, I'd rather see PB work on some of the REAL bugs and glitches in the game's program instead of wasting time on this type of thing.
