runs/earned runs vs RBIs by pitcher
I know the difference between runs and earned runs. I just wanted to know why, lets say, a starting pitcher gives up let's say 50 runs/earned runs in a season yet if you look at the batters stats against him there are only 35 RBIs. After further study I also found out that many relief pitchers this trend was reversed. Thus the answer......not only do runs scored on DPs count for a run/earned run with no RBI, so does having runners on when pulled from the game who score. For instance: starter leaves game with 2 runners on, relief pitcher comes in and gives up a 3 run HR. Starter gets credited with 2 runs (either earned or not) but no RBI against him while the reliever gets credited for 1 run (either earned or not) yet 3 RBIs aginst him in just facing 1 batter. I'm sorry for the question when I should have waited until I had explored every possible answer.
