Is tanking really the problem???

Posted By mdouglas

It seems to me that there is a problem much greater than tanking. It is too easy for a manager to give up his team and then take another unmanaged team, sometimes within the same year in the same league. It isn't hard to build a contender every two or three years. All you need to do is trade away the future to build up for the current year and then, in the following year or two, retool to build for the future. What's hard is to keep a team in contention year after year....always balancing keeping the team strong for the current season but having enough young prospects to stay strong into the future.

Unfortunately it seems like many managers are inclined to build a team up for a current run and then dump it when the inevitable hard times hit. Given PB's need for additional revenue, it isn't reasonable to expect Mike to unduly restrict the ability of people to pick up new teams, particularly where it increases monthly revenue. So I'm not sure this problem can be addressed until PB is on firmer financial footing (i.e. Mike can finally take some well deserved compensation for his efforts).
