Bonds & Steroids
Why are people against athletes taking steroids ? One of the more credible arguments against it is that if some people take PED then others will be forced to compromise their own health by taking drugs just to compete. It's those athletes who are the real victms.
If that argument works for you (And I think it's the most persuasive argument against PED) then consider this : Bonds is a victim.
He was the best player in MLB (despite the Griffey believers) util Sosa and McGwire bulked up and pushed him down the pecking order. In order to compete on his playing field, the one not for a major league job but for being the best player in MLB, Bonds was forced to take drugs.
He's not a sympathetic character and I'm not even sure I buy this line of thinking but it's interesting.
Also, if MLB is going to jump on Barry theyy better go after a lot more guys. Remember the '93 Phillies? Led by 2 guys who started skinny and lacking in pop but Dykstra (he put on 40 pounds of muscle in 1 offseason) and Daulton bulked up and changed their lives forever. Derek Lowe? Remember when he went from the bullpen to the rotation and put on 25 lbs. in one offseason picking up a few MPH along the way. Any one of us could name a few dozen so let's hate none or hate them all but stop all the Barry-only rage.
