Early Season Assessment - The Rookies!!
Well, we're two weeks into the season and we have a small sample to studyn but study we will.
How are the top rookie picks doing so far?
The "King" Feliz: I would worry if I had him, but no surprise here, he's a pitcher.
Jeremy Hermida: Slow start but at least playing so it's too early to judge this one fairly. Tough playing for Florida and that doesn't help.
Ryan Zimmerman: Good opening day but going downhill since. I'm going to say he'll be okay but those who drafted him will worry for awhile it appears. He playes for the Nats, see Jeremy above.
Zack Duke: see the "King" above!
Prince Fielder: Should have gone higher in most drafts as he may be the cream of the crop. He does need to find the dinger stroke though!
Robinson Cano: Not to worry. He's not really a rookie and with those Ynakee bats around him he should do just fine.
Ande Marte: Check him out in the minors. Cleveland may call him up if Aaron Boone continues his struggle through mid-May.
Jeff Francoeur: Terrible start but not to worry as he too is not really a rookie and he seems to be warming.
Houston Street: One pitcher who seems to be pitching to form .... but he is a reliever, not a rookie, and could get relieverites at any moment.
Tadhito Iguchi: Not many wanted him probably because he's not 16 but at 30 or 31 anyone would die to have him if he puts up the numbers he's capable of and at 2nd base no less - see Matsui, Hidecki and Ichiro for examples.
Francisco Liriano: Last time I looked he was in the pen. Not what most drafted him for though.
Justin Verlander: Great start for Detroit but not so great for Justin. Could that be a harbinger?
In the I wish I drafted him category: Yea, it's early I know, we have:
Hanley Ramirez
Jonathon Papelbon
