If you are going to finish with a poor record, some simple trades of older, high PB guys gives you a top 5 pick every round, as well as some younger talent(or more rookie picks).

You pick up 4 guys during the season, then 3 more guys in the rookie draft. Thats 7 guys you pick up even before trades. Combine with a couple trades for picks and you end up with 9-10 good young rookies in one year. In traditional getting 4-5 guys is usually the best you can do.
