Back To Board

My response back

"I am pretty sure it’s not working and was not when the post was generated. This was not a post to embarrass anyone and probably should not have singled out Mike Douglas – wrong there."

We agree here. Additionally many managers have noted that they enjoy being a GM, making trades, drafting, and would have the robot play games Saturday night if the Robot were working. I personally think this is fine. What are your thoughts on owners that want to do this?

"Yes and it’s caused problems for many of us and many managers have complained. The issue is to get as many as possible to play as early as possible. How many teams do you have? If you have more than say five, you’ll find it a problem if all five are away and you need to send lineups and they all finish on Tuesday – unless, of course, you have unlimited time to spend in front of a computer. And if you do, I say all the more power to you but you will be an exception."

Your problem seems to be the in between time to send away lineups. Many times I'll just have my lefty/righty lineup done, and let the computer choose my starters as 95% of the time I know who it will choose. When in doubt I submit one away game and the computer fills in the rest, exactly as I would have planned it.

"If it’s not obvious that I believe what I write here in my heart, then my name would be of no consequence anyway. This kind of post doesn’t require an author as it’s an attempt to make the game better – in this one person’s opinion.
What’s the point here? Ken, I love you but you are not the eyes, ears, and conscience of purebaseball."

The point was we discuss this issue first before making most owners upset. The way you went about this doesn't make the game better. Getting the home robot working would make the game better. Telling people when they have to play their games is your opinion, it doesn't make the game better. I've had many owners discuss major issues with me, using me as a sounding board. You have that same chance.

"That’s quite understandable and I mentioned Bravard as an example of someone who might have a difficulty getting games played by Sunday evening. All of us from time to time will have this problem. Therefore the email suggestion so you don’t have to log on several times a day to see if games were played."

Once again the rules state the games need to be played by Tuesday or the Robot plays the games. No need for an email since its in the rules. Once again a better idea is fixing the robot to play on Saturday, not making accusations at numerous owners.

"Ken, what you are missing here and what some others are missing here is that this is a problem. I believe it would go away if the robot manager option programmed into the game last year, I believe, were fixed. This is probably another duty for John Meredith – but he may not have the time. I suspect that managers who can’t play their games would program the robot to play them fairly early in the “baseball” week. Mike mentioned several months ago when all the grousing was going on that we would see improvements soon and I suspect the playing of games by un-managed teams is one of those very improvements. If I am right, why is this considered to be an improvement? Tell me honestly that you have never been rushed to send away lineups for teams that finish playing games on Tuesdays – honestly. Wouldn’t you prefer to have had the ability to do that on your own terms (schedule). "

Repeating from above, your problem(as well as some other managers) seems to be the in between time to send away lineups. Many times I'll just have my lefty/righty lineup done, and let the computer choose my starters as 95% of the time I know who it will choose. When in doubt I submit one away game and the computer fills in the rest, exactly as I would have planned it.
