Change the schedule?

Posted By Fred C

The frustration with not being able to make transactions sometimes until very late Tuesday does need to be addressed I think. Many of us do get frustrated when you log in on a Tuesday night and their games are still unplayed, both in terms of wanting to know how you did that series but also in terms of setting up for the next one. But as others have mentioned, not playing the games until Tuesday or letting the robot play are both well within the rules and owners who choose to do so shouldn't be criticized.

However I have asked in the past in this forum whether the Tuesday mid-morning deadline makes any practical sense at this point. Given the amount of time it takes to play the robot games - maybe that is too late in the day to start? Given the schedule of those who need to turn on the robot - maybe there is a more practical time for them that isn't during work hours? I suspect most owners who are going to play the games do so by the end of the weekend, maybe Monday night - I'd be curious as to how many games are played "live" in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

I'd suggest Mike, John, and anyone else involved think about when is the best time for them to run the robot. Maybe starting at midnight on Monday (going into Tuesday)? Maybe the schedule shouldn't be from Thursday to Tuesday anymore - maybe games are on from Wednesday to Saturday, giving the the tech team Sunday to do what it has to do? No schedule is set in stone. I don't know what's the best schedule, and maybe it wouldn't matter. But it would be better if instead of trying to fit to a schedule from the past (and failing quite often to keep to that schedule) to devise a new schedule that can be met, based on reasonable estimates of when the staff can do what it needs to do.

This also goes for the season in general. Why, for instance, do we wait so long to do the drafts during the offseason, and then can't do them a day at a time (instead of three rounds a day) - or maybe allow a day in between rounds? Why not wait a fuul week to start the playoffs, so if there are one game playoffs or roster moves to be made there is time to do so (and maybe avoid the problems form last year). We play a full year, lets maximize that, instead of sticking to some timeline that compresses things, putting more pressure on both Tech, Mike, and the owners themselves.
