In traditional Renteria isn't even a starting SS due to his poor hitting vs righties and terrible error rating.
The trade basically came down to:
Reyes for Weeks
Podsednik & Counsell for Renteria
For 2005 Brent got the better deal. Klesko helps make up for the fact that neither Renteria nor Weeks is in my starting lineup, but Brent comes out on top as all three guys are in his starting lineup and are better than the guys they replaced.
For 2006 so far Counsell and Renteria are even(Renteria hitting a little better while Counsell is much better defensively) while Reyes has a slight advantage over Weeks due to defense(Weeks has 10 errors and a .920 fielding pct). Podsednik makes for a good bench guy.
Beyond that it eventually comes down to Weeks/Reyes and hopefully we both do well.
I asked Brent what players on my team interested him and who he wanted to move. He then suggested the trade we made but with Liriano included as well with Woody Williams. I posted it here because I wasn't sure about it and many good posters felt the same way, thus we modified the deal. Mike also reviewed it as well with an email asking for Brent's input and then the trade was verified.
