Please weigh in on Konerko vs. D Lee trade per commish request

Posted By Tim A.

Mike Bravard asked me to post this to the bulletin board to see what the community as a whole thinks (in the e-mail chain below you will note his request that I post this to the bulletin board). The following is an exchange regarding a proposed Derrek Lee for Paul Konerko swap in 99 Trad 2.

To both managers,
Lee will have less Pas next year but better numbers for those PAs. Outside of Pujols who is a better hitter? Plus he can run and field. Plus what about 2007 on?

This seems to me like a poor exchange of talent.

I may have jumped the gun on this one but my reasoning is that once again for the third straight year my team is underachieving and not putting up the numbers they should be.

So frustration sets in yet again and I figure to throw in the towel and try for next season.
because I figure my team will stink again next season without a 1bman or power hitter.

But you may be right, yes I feel im stacking the Leopards a bit more but then again nothing seems to be working for me. However good point on the less PA's but better for those PA's. I was just looking at the point my big offseason moves are bust and my big bopper gets injured for the next year.

But do what you have to do either way im fine with it.

I did a quick comparison of the OPS for Konerko and Lee over the last 5 full seasons.

In 2001, 2002, and 2004 they were so close that they were almost the same player. (2 of those years Konerko was a little better, the third year Lee was a little better).

In 2003 and 2005 Lee was better by a decent amount. For what its worth Lee is 8 months older.

It is worthy to note that 2005 is the first year that either of them exceeded .900 OPS, so to assume that either or both will maintain that high level is a bit presumptious. Although, I think both will remain good players for the next several years.

All things considered, I'd say looking forward at 2007 and on there is a reasonable chance that they could be similar players. So then I think the difference is level of performance in 2005 vs. amount of playing time in 2006.

Please post this on the discussion board and see if I am being presumptuous or if my opinion is "off the beaten track"

Thanks in advance.

I thought it was a terrible trade.
But by all means see what the PB population thinks about it.

I already posted it on Friday and of 6 posts it is unanimous that the trade should be allowed. A couple of people thought it was silly that I had to ask whether such a trade is fair because it was so o
