Local Column in Des Moines(!)
Our major Des Moines newspaper roused from its stupor regarding baseball (unless it's Cubs, or even worse, I-Cubs) to feature a column by a "sportswriter" who never writes about any baseball above high school. The guy said if he had a vote(!), Bonds and "his steroid bash brothers" would never get into the Hall.
Are there other columns out there like that? How can they even talk about excluding Bonds from the Hall?
I don't like the guy and I hat the steroid scandal, but that ain't all steroids. His numbers are what they are, and they aren't going to take them away. But the lame columnist I'm describing does represent the views of a lot of casual "fans" who dismiss wanything these guys do. How do other sports get a free pass on this stuff?
Will McGwire suffer the same fate when Hall time comes? Or just the guy everybody loves to hate?
