I was curious....
I was curious about the same thing, but from an overall season perspective. I can't do the numbers as far as the change in performance with game versions 34 & 35 unfortunately, but I always had the feeling that PB was, in fact, more "offensive" minded, especially based on the league leading hitters after 140 games (I play in 99 RT-2).
I did up the numbers league wide, and the results are :
BATTING AVG SLG RUNS
MLB .271 .434 10.16 / game
PB(RT2) .283 .457 11.76 / game
DIFF 4.4% 5.2% 15.8 %
PITCHING ERA
MLB 4.71
PB(RT2) 5.42
DIFF 15%
This tells me that PB overall is roughly tilted 15% towards offense. And this is based off of mostly the previous version (33), which by public opinion (I have no numbers to back this up) was LESS "offensive" than the updated version....
I don't know what this means, but it's probably not much.
So the numbers are different than those of "real" baseball. Big deal. This is a fantasy game, so the numbers can frankly be whatever they want, and it does not affect the quality of the game, which I find to be overall quite excellent.
We simply all have expectations of "reality" and those expectations can cloud what it is that we are getting, which to me is by far one of the more interesting mediums out there to enjoy a little competition based (however loosely it may or may not be) on a sport that we all have enjoyed since we were children.
So maybe the offense is more like slo-pitch softball.... Sit back, have a beer, and have fun.
