Limitations and pitching
I just wanted to comment on a couple of things...
First, the use of players with limited playing time on one side (vsLH/vsRH). I know that this game takes into account playing time, and will eventually restrict a player, but this does not aid the game early in the season. Early in the season you can play someone who had 40 at bats and hit .475 with a .700 slug and you will warp/win games early on. This is hardly baseball nor fair to those people who actually attempted to draft "realistic" teams and not teams filled with lefty/righty matchups.
With over a decade in Baseball simulation under my belt (APBA/Pursue the Penant/Dynasty League/Diamond Mind) this is a weak system in which to deal with limitations. Many of the previous games would not allow you to START a player that had restricted time against one side against a corresponding starting pitcher. I believe that this game would benefit greatly if you were to add the same restriction on these "limited" time players.
Essentially, they can ONLY face a left hander (if they were limited vs a left hander) IF the opposing manager placed a lefty on the mound AFTER the player was already playing.
The could not start vs a lefty, NOR could they pinch hit vs a lefty.
Some may start whining that there aren't enough players then, but that is pure nonsense. We are playing in a 20 team league that consists of players from a 26 major league teams.
My only other concern is that it seems we are playing with baseballs tied as tight as golf balls. Granted I've only played one series this year, but 21 home runs in a 5 game series?!? 77 runs in a 5 game series? Star pitchers beat up and average pitchers slaughtered on BOTH sides of the field. That isn't right.
Now I know the excuse will be the same "you play in a 20 team league made from 26 major league rosters so you have to expect better hitting" and I agree... to a point... but something is wrong when the offensive stats are so skewed. 21 home runs in a non-hitter friendly park (6 hit by Chipper Jones!!!) is not "just a little better hitting." Maybe the algorythms need to be looked at?
All I know is I'll never waste the first 3 rounds of a draft picking ace starters again.
