Interesting but...

Interesting... and it may have merits, but I still think the best way to stop these people from building "platoon" teams of incredible strength is to place limitations on the platoon players.

Again, I'm not talking about a platoon player who racked up 200 at bats versus his side, but rather, those bizarre players who went 23 for 50 against a right hander and managed to park 6 of those hits.

People are using such players as REGULAR starters, and that is WRONG. Sure, EVENTUALLY the game will take care of them, but it doesn't help the guy who had his team beaten by them early in the season.

I still think the best way to stop all the platoon transgressions is to put in place a limitation that will NOT allow a manager to START a limited player against his limited side (NOR let him pinch hit against that side).

So if a player has that "Limited Vs LH" tag, then he would NOT be able to start a game versus left handers, nor would he be able to pinch hit versus left handers. The ONLY way he could face a left hander would be the way he USUALLY met them in REAL life... which is while playing against a right handed pitcher, and the opposing team put a left hander into the lineup.

I've played with MANY games that place this restriction on such players, and it WORKS. It'll stop the idiocy of people taking some joker who had 23 hits in 40 at-bats versus right handers, and then using him as a starter or as a killer pinch hitter.

Anyone can manipulate stats, Ive done it myself. Playing Strat-O-Matic Hockey I drafted Jan Erixon (a 2 offense - 1 being the lowest) because he had a HUGE goal area on his card. The problem was that he rarely touched the puck (mostly higher offense #s touch the puck). So I built a line of losers (all 1 offense) except for Jan. He almost led our league in scoring and was the main reason my team made the finals. If you know Jan Erixon, then you KNOW he could hit the broad side of barn with a Mac truck.

The question remains, are we trying to emulate the real leagues here? Or are we just playing based on statistics? If it is the later, then throw-out all limitations and let Joe Schmo from some triple-a team who managed to hit 6 singles in 12 at-bats lead the league in hitting.
