A quick look at the stat leader boards will confirm the ability of some pitchers to defeat any kind of hitting. If you take the time to look at several leagues you will find ample evidence of dominance. If your star pitcher is getting rocked, you might want to examine your defense as David suggested---or the strength of your schedule.

As to the game getting stuck in a pattern, If you find this is happening, I would reboot your machine before playing PB games because it sounds like poor system reliability caused by low resources. There is nothing wrong with our random number generator and I have never seen such a "rut" occur in my thousands of games.

By the way---certain occurences are more likely to repeat themselves in a SIM than in real life. Pitchers who have thrown a wild pitch or hit a batter are trying extra hard not to repeat the error--there is no such corrective effort on the part of a SIM. Even so, the game of baseball has seen incredible situations, like Pokey Reese's four errors on opening day in 1998---or Gary DiSarcina's three errors in a 1999 game.
