From a mathematical point of view the things you say about leaving a guy in even if he is having a bad day make a lot of sense.

However, I have seen enough instances when a good pitcher gets shelled and shelled and shelled in one particular game to make me *WONDER* if there isn't some good day/bad day variable worked into the mix somewhere.
