I think you are missing the point. There is a HUGE difference between a team having an extra handful of players (5 if we use a hard cap of 40) and having an unlimited amount of players. It's all about realism, and having an unlimited pool of players available to you in the playoffs is just not realistic at all. The whole point of the discussion and removing the cap is so that we don't have to be restricted when making odd man trades. NOT so that we can build a 1yr team to win it all in an unrealistic manner. Sure, owners might trade away some future value to make a run, but there is a limit to the amount of players they can accumulate. All we are saying is to raise that limit by just 5 players to allow for some more flexability.
