Is every at bat an unique event within a game? It seems to me that there is a certain streakiness to the game. Certain batters cannot be gotten out no matter who is pitching; certain pitchers will suck no matter which batter that they face. Or is it just me? I just get tired of making moves that sometimes seem to have little to no effect.

Sorry, needed to vent. But I am curious; is every event separate from the previous event and the next one, or are there 'cycles' within the randomness? Maybe I just don't understand small sample thoery well enough; but I do understand why managers can be driven to drink.
