LEFTY RELIEVERS

Posted By N. GRANT

Backing up the claim that lefty relievers can perform exceptionally well is the experience of the DUNEDIN DOVES in W9 baseball. GREG SWINDELL has made 20 appearances, pitched 22 innings, has an ERA of 0.82 and has surrendered only one home run. MIKE VENAFRO has made 17 appearances, pitched 18.7 innings with an ERA of 0.96 and zero home runs. Compare their combined efforts to that of my key righty reliever, closer MARIANO RIVERA with 18 appearances, 22.7 innings pitched, an eRA of 1.99, zero home runs and a record of one win, 2 losses and only 6 saves. My lefty starter AL LEITER has pitched 48.7 innings with an ERA of 4.07 which is just fine in an offence-oriented baseball game. It just goes to show that you cannot be too simplistic when talking leftie-rightie values.
