I'd have to actually look, but I believe that Mike has gone over this one. From what I gathered in past discussions, every hitter has the same chance of getting a hit each time to the plate. It does not matter if he has gone 0 for 4 in the game and is "due" or if he is 4 for 4 and knocking the cover off the ball that game. The same goes for pitching, each pitch (assuming they are not tired) has the same chance of getting the batter out. The only variables there, are the ability of the batter, and whether or not there are runners on (when clutch rating would then factor in). That is how I remember streaks and trends being explained....that there is nothing in the game to that effect.

Now, personally, I still think there is or the randomness of the game is truely great. Small sample size plays a roll here, but I've had home series with the same SP and lineups on both teams for games 1 and 5.....with vastly different results. I've gone against the Big Unit in game 1, getting shutout with a total lack of hitting. Then, game 5 comes around and with the same lineup (and same SP on my end)...beat the socks off of him. Usually this can be seen early in the game too. If a starter is going to get roped, it's been fairly early in my experience...they don't just all of a sudden lose it (as long as BFA is positive). If a starter stays strong early, he usually keeps the other team shutdown for his remaining BFA. Again, this is just in my experience in 2 perpetual leagues and 3 launch leagues...so while I've played 100's of home games, it's still a fairly small sample size in the grand scheme of things.
