Vazquez BFA -- exact numbers

Posted By Tim A.

I am not in the league in question but I have some friends in it so I was curious and looked into it.

Here is what I found.

2000 RT 1

Week 4 - Game 4 (Home): Vazquez faced 22 hitters and was lifted early in a blowout
Week 5 - Game 4 (Road): Vazquez faced 38 hitters
Week 6 - Game 4 (Home): Vazquez faced 34 hitters
Week 7 - Game 4 (Road): Lowe started in the place normally occupied by Vazquez.

Currently the game has Vazquez rated with Max Bats of 32 and Rec of 8. It seems safe to assume that Vazquez was at MAX BFA (whatever that was at the time) when he started in Week 5. What makes this difficult to analyze is that I do not know what the Max Bats and Rec have been for each of the last 3 weeks.
I am especially curious why the ROBOT allowed Vazquez to face 38 hitters in week 5. The only way that a perfect ROBOT should allow that to happen is under one of the following conditions

(a) If at that time his Max Bats was 36 and his recovery was 9
(b) If there were no rested relievers to bring in
(c) If there were 6 rotation pitchers on the active roster

Let us also consider the following scenario
(d) Max Bats and Recovery used to be 36/9 and changed to 32/8 2 weeks ago

Now lets do a little logic

IF (.not. a ) THEN
There is probably no way that Vazquez was READY when he started in week 6 and there is a reasonable chance he was not ready in week 7 when called upon.
ELSE IF (a .and. d) THEN
Vazquez may or may not have been ready in Week 6 and likely was not ready in Week 7.
END IF

Unfortunately without a running history of the Max Bats and Recovery information on Vazquez it is impossible to exactly replicate the situation; however, the evidence strongly points in the direction that Vazquez perhaps was not ready when called on to pitch in week 7.

I'm sure glad I play in Trad. I think RT would be fun but it would drive me bonkers with everything fluctuating every week (especially the pitcher ratings).
