Don't believe in chemistry? Then read this...
A month ago, I traded draft picks away to obtain SS Barry Larkin (traditional league).
Barry hit .293 last year, and replaced the lightweight hitter Kelly Dransfeldt (.189 average) who was filling in on this team that is in the midst of rebuilding...
Well... this team had been playing at a fair clip... they were 29-56, well on their way to my goal of 50 wins this year. I figured it would be a lock to win 50 now that I had replaced a .189 hitter in my lineup with a .293 hitter with no other changes in my lineup.
Wrong.
Since the trade my team has gone 2-18. I can't figure it out... but someone needs to give Larkin a talking to. Although, it could be that Dransfeldt was giving the team an off field boost. Maybe his clubhouse demeaner, or his constant attempts to play better than his ability helped the team?
Before being sent to the farm Dransfeldt was hitting a measly .164 in 85 games, BUT he had 25 RBIs on his 48 hits, and was leading the league (at the time of his demotion - and he is STILL leading the league despite missing the last 20 games!) in Sacrifice Hits (21).
So how does it all add up??
Well... if things don't turn around in the next set of 5... I think Kelly will find himself on the next plane out of Edmonton heading back to sit on the Port Huron bench. :^)
