I agree somewhat... but there has to be some kind of consistency

FIRST!!!! let me make it clear that I LOVE this game.

I can't wait to play my home games, and I play each game religiously. I check these forums, like to write stories.. I've even created pictures for my team players (just check out Eddie Taubensee, my team captain in his Port Huron uniform -> I think the guys at pure baseball are doing a great job, and I've found the tech and the commish have answered all my concerns from billing to game play quick and cleanly.

But I wouldn't be so complacent with the statistical accuracy of the game. I've often been in here talking about the randomness of the game, and the difference between pitching and hitting, but I do so in the hopes of improving the engine... This topic grabbed my attention....

I'll tell you why...

Many claim that "randomness" is required, and that it "flavors" the game.... how many times have I heard If every player played exactly as they should, why even play the games?

I'll tell you why, because when players act as they should, WE can manage the teams! Instead of letting the robot or the random die roll take charge of the game, WE control the game though managerial decisions by placing players into certain situations based on their stats and then having the expectation that they would perform to those stats.

I mean, if the randomness in the game is so strong that a pitcher with great stats can pitch like he couldn't throw batting practice, and a hitter who hit the mendosa line can come close to leading the league in hitting... then I have to ask....

If the game is so loosely based on stats that you can't count on anyone performing the way they should, if the game is so random thatdraft picks become crap shoots, if randomness is so prevalent that we are taken out of the managerial role because we DON'T know who to trade for/draft/sub for, then why even play the games?

Think about it... this is the second side to that coin.

My team is a good example of this... oh, they are are bad... I know that... I knew that when I took them over (it's my project to rebuild them), but in the first half of the year they went 26-54, and then they turn around and go 7-31?? And this is a team that 25 games ago replaced a .169 hitting short stop with a .290 hitting short stop!! No matter what I do I can't stop the bleeding.

I'd like to see the game play a little tighter to the real major league stats... so that we as managers are not removed too far from the game.
