Simulations should simulate
I agree with you that the opposition, the stadium, etc. can affect performance.
Still...over all leagues this should even out. Sometimes a player may be at Coors, but sometimes his home park will be a pitcher's park. In addition, he only plays half his games at home.
As for the problem with only 24 teams, perhaps pitching and hitting are both at a higher level than normal, but if so, then ALL players should equally be under their actual averages. But..that should not affect the variability (standard deviation) of their averages from one league to the next. Performance should be reasonably consistent. Of course some variability should be seen due to randomness. But over many games that variability should not be great.
Right now it takes a lot of time and effort to try to see how different players are performing compared to their "expected" performance. It is difficult to accept the SIM is a good one because you see all the freak things on your team without seeing how the players do in other leagues.
It would be nice if there were an easy way to access statistics for players across leagues so we could see how consistent or variable performance is in the SIM.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could get a players stats across all the leagues that was updated each week?
You could see if your Piazza was hitting better or worse than in other leagues in a quick, easy fashion. If he was hitting .198 for you with 3 HR, you could see that you were the exception and that in general he performed as expected. You were just having bad luck - it wasn't that the game somehow had a bug in it that made him underperform.
