Back To Board

I was bored....

Posted By RobE

Firstly - there are now TWO of us RobE's writing on the wall in here !

OK - I had a bit of time to kill, and I've been feeling that my team, as a whole, was "underperforming". Since I was bored, I decided to do a little comparison of stats, across the board.
I found out that I was only sorta right.

I can't really put the table out here because of the formatting, and I don't have a web address to post this to, so I'll just hit upon some salient (or maybe not so salient) points.

(Sorry in advance, I know the formatting won't be the prettiest)

For the general team stats -

Pitching
STAT PB ML %diff
H/9 9.71 8.65 12.25%
BB/9 3.35 3.06 9.48%
SO/9 6.60 6.06 8.91%
HR/9 1.51 1.19 26.89% YUCK !!

In pitching was where I sort of knew I was "correct" in my team's underperformance.

Hitting
STAT PB ML %diff
HR% 3.74 3.85 -2.85%
BB% 12.6 11.7 +7.69%
SO% 21.7 19.2 +13.02%
AVG .289 .289 -
SLG .474 .475 -
OBP .379 .373 +1.61%

In looking over the numbers, the overall offense does seem to come out remarkably similar to "expected" team performance, especially in the overall numbers like AVG/SLG/OBP.
In looking at the overall numbers, the "platoon" factor goes a long way in making it that way. This is where I have gotten the overall impression that my team was playing "poorly".

When I look at the top 6 players on my squad, (based on AB's) they are all hitting below their average and striking out more, hence my weekly displeasure (Bagpipes is on pace to hit only 34 HR's, dagnabbit!)

The overall pitching..... well, I guess it's fair to say that my staff is woefully underperforming, which perplexes me a bit, as I specifically chose a stadium that was supposed to favor the pitching (NY_N). The HR's allowed is stunning!

I have only completed 70 games in the season, so this is by no means statistically representative of anything. I just had some time to kill, and thought it was interesting enough to post.
