Dynasties

Every once in a while you see a small market team make a big splash. Just look at the Expos in the strike-abreviated season, the Twins in 1987 & 1991, or the A's this year. But it is hard for a team that has to keep payroll at 20 million to compete with teams that can spend over 100 million in salaries.

I've heard the arguments, 'Well then the small market teams should not be in the league!", but remmeber one thing. Those small market teams had to pay big bucks to the big market teams just for the priviledge of playing with them. And they're never a real threat to the big market teams because of the money issue.

Just look to the NFL, which has a great revenue shraring plan, or the NBA, with a true salary cap & you see two very healthy sports league.

Baseball is a very sick sport. It has been for a long time and you've seen it losing it's place as America's Pasttime. This years World Series was one of the worse TV draws ever.

Even in the 30's, 40's & 50's the Yankee's bought their pennents. Many trades that they made were to take superstars, or up & coming young talents from teams that were in financial trouble. What they gave up in return was often cash so the team could stay afloat.

Level the playing field, then talk about dynasties. Right now the big market teams are just playground bullies & the sport is quickly losing any appeal to the American public. Baseball will soon R.I.P.
