As far as I know If you release a player he is gone and there is almost no way to aquire anymore.
I have heard that at some time in the future there will be a waiver list. Don't know when it will happen. I got a message from Mike Bravard that if you need pitching notify TECH and they will provide you with an innocuous pitcher.
