A Common Misconception

I understand what you're saying, I wonder those things too. However, people tend to remember the unusual occurances and consider them everyday events. It's a common psychological phenomena. It also results in people sayng, "Smoking can't be that bad for you, I have a great Aunt whose smoked for 53 years and she's still alive....".

As a very quick data check I looked at 7 RT teams in the Senior Circuit. I saw 12 hits by pitchers over 90 games. I think you are probably just remembering the big events and forgetting about the number of times the pitchers make outs.
