Look at ALL the Numbers
I looked at Mike Hampton over 10 different RT leagues. I know ERA is not the best stat (due to defense behind a pitcher, the quality of relief pitching etc) but his ERA in RT leagues ranges from 1.40 to 7.11. A lot of variablility? You bet. The average is 3.71, which sounds somewhat reasonable given the platooning effect in PB.
In real life he is 2.70 and gives up a hit an inning and walks about 1 batter every three innings. I'd say his real life ERA is a bit lower than his hits & walks allowed would indicate.
I have a serious question to ask all PB players. When will someone post that they have Galarraga who in real life is hitting .223 but on their RT team he is anchoring first base with a BA of .348. We never hear those complaints! By the way, those numbers are from my team (Newtown, 99 RT1). I also have Ben Davis (around .300 in real life) pulling his weight with a .176.
You live by the sword & die by the sword, but don't bitch too much about it, we all have those types of people.......
