Is there somewhere that displays how Stats Inc. determines the defensive ratings for PureBaseball? Sometimes I wonder if they pull numbers out of a hat. For example, Doug Mientkiewicz has always been known for quality defense at first base. The games I've seen him play he's been outstanding. Baseball America just came out with their tool ratings and Mientkiewicz was ranked third in AL first base defense behind Olerud and Palmeiro. Many people consider Doug the front runner for the gold glove. Yet PureBaseball gives him an ODR of 3.4 and a range rating 0.6? What exactly is this "range algorithm" that gives him such a crappy range rating? It's not just me that thinks it should be considerably better.
