Play results
I aked Mike about the inconsistencies in play-by-play results and he said something to the effect that the play-by-play results don't always have any bearing on what really happened on a play as only the results matter. In the above case there was a flyout to the outfield and a runner was out trying to advance. I have had results where a very slow runner scores from third standing up on a fly ball to shallow outfield on a fielder with an above average arm. There has been some concern in the past about pull hitters who hit the ball to the opposite field but this falls in the same category. Basically the play-by-play descriptions are flawed and may have no bearing on what really happened. All that matters is the play result.
