Drafting by PB Value - Thoughts?
Getting ready to draft in a new launch league; setting my evaluations and noticed that in several cases, I disagree substantially from ranking players simply by PB value. Specifically, I had several players ranked much higher than PB value would indicate.
1) Curious about PB Values and this sim; does anyone (or everyone besides me) believe that a higher PB value indicates a better player from a sim standpoint? I am a fan of Ron Shandler's work (www.baseballhq.com) and play a lot of rotisserrie. I wish I had a better understanding of exactly how the PB value was calculated....
2) Anyone noticed any flaws in these PB values? I'm noted several starting pitchers who have similar numbers; one will have twice the PB value of another. Is the park effect that extreme?
3) Would you draft strictly by PB Value? Bonds had one helluva year; I still can't see taking him before a stud SP like Schilling....
4) Does positional scarcity enter into PB Value, and if so, how? For 2001, Piazza has a PB value slightly higher than Scott Rolen; I would think that Piazza would be much more valuable....
My biggest complaint about this game is the requirement to learn so much of it's workings by trial and error; the manual covers a lot of information in a shallow manner; I would love some additional depth on certain issues. Also, searching this discussion board to find information leaves alot to be desired....
Oh, and join 2002 launch league 1; we need 6 more owners, and I'm chomping at the bit to get started....
