It's actually supposed to be a bit more involved than that, with the "Zone" rating used. This is a rating of outs vs. balls hit to "his" area. I'm not sure exactly who judges the "area" or whether these zones are park adjusted for the speed of the infield, etc (expect not) but that's how it's supposed to be derived.
