I think Innocuous may mean a guy that although he does not get alot of atbats they still get alot of situational opportunities too. Like late inning defense or pinch run or what have you. Basically the word means "harmless" so it would never be tagged to a guy that could hurt you. To be able to play them all you want can help keep other guys fresh but it won't really help your teamwin the game he is in.
