Home Advantage PB Style
I certainly consider home field an advantage. I get to see which opposing pitcher I will face, my bullpen is managed the way I want, and my pinch hitters are used when I want them. I can also change pitching plans during the series based on the rest of my bullpen and whatever else.
Does this mean I'll always win more at home? NO. It's at home that I'm apt to gamble on a starting pitcher like a McElroy, a LH who can only get RH batters out. I'll know enough to walk the tough RHB, or to lift him with men on. On the road I may simplify my instructions, going with my best, while at home I'll use more situational relievers. At season's end I'll also be able to watch the standings game by game, and know when it's safe to risk losing, to set up my playoff rotation.
I know that my teams DO fare better at home, in general. I also know that unmanaged teams affect the overall home/away stats in PB. Like in real baseball, it depends on how a team is constructed and is difficult to measure home/away adavantage. But it's there...
