PB Deflation
Does this sound like a great team:
C-Posada
1B-Konerko
2B-Alomar-SS-ARod
3B-Chipper
OF-Edmonds,Griffey/Kapler,Abreu
SP-Morris,Glavine,Wood,Colon,Kennedy
RP-Nen,Hoffman
How about this one:
C-Pudge
1B-DelGado
2B-Kent
SS-ARod
3B-Ventura
OF-Bonds,Erstad,Sosa
DH-Sheffield
SP-Hudson,Helling,Durbin,Baldwin
RP-Foulke,Kline,Wickman,Lowe,Nen
Lastly:
C-Pudge
1B-Bagwell
2B-Biggio
SS-ARod
3B-Fryman
OF-Bonds,Finley,Sosa
DH-Edgar,D.Young,Justice
SP-Weaver,Helling,Wolf,Rusch,Estes
RP-Wickman,Tam,Manzanillo,Von Poppel,Percival
What do they have in common, besides ARod ? They are (at a glance) the strongest teams in my 3 Trad leagues and they are all stacked with stars. Their PB values are, in order: 83.174,87.669 & 84.236.
In prior years the powerhouse teams would have to manipulate their rosters to get under the PB limits (120 in a 20 team league,115 in a 24), but now their not even close. The PB value deflation has changed the PB values so much that the Cap rule is useless. Either they should abandon it or update it, because right now it doesn't seem to be effective.
If anyone can site an example of a team over the limit, I'd be interested to see how unbelievable a team would have to be.
