teams
I think an all pitching team is very useful in the short series...so make the playoffs in a weaker division, then may win a short series with good pitching.
I find overall, I favor strong hitting teams, then fill in pitching (the better the pitching becomes, the better the overall product).
The Lima Locos have been owned by me since inception of C16...which helps build a team.
Bonds was obtained in a trade 4-5 years ago...I sent M.Ramirez/Ruffcorn (remember him?...a pitching prospect) for Bonds.
Helton, Rollins, Mays, Benitez, were obtained in rookie drafts.
Vidro, Nevin, Catalanotto, Manzanillo, Fox in free agent drafts.
J.Cruz Jr., F.Garcia, Vazquez were obtained in trades.
Note trade path...
Lima sent Palmeiro, A.Soriano, A.Gonzalez (Fla), Rookie 2, FA4, FA5 to Cinci for Cinci R1, FA2, FA3.
Then Lima got F.Garcia for Doug Davis and Cinci R1. As the other team picked I.Suzuki with the R1 pick...then the trade equals D.Davis/Ichiro for Garcia.
Lima got Vazquez, R2, FA5 for Floyd, Stein, R1, FA2 picks.
As you can see...Lima gave up alot of talent to get the key cinci Rookie 1 (3rd pick in this years' Rookie draft), then used it to get Garcia.
Floyd, Stein, and a late R1, FA2 went for Vazquez.
So my main approach was to build a talented team with good drafts over several years, then when the team was close...trade for the key players (in this case starters) to put it over the top (I hope!). This team has never won a championship, but has been in the playoffs nearly every year. Lost in league championships many times. Usually lose to a team with 3 top starters in the short series.
