This sounds like a good idea to me. The rule exists, and the proviso is there that if you expect to get to your games late, like Monday p.m. or even early Tuesday, you can notify tech or the commish and they won't be played out from under you.
Only drawback is possibly the concern that it might drive more teams out. Some leagues are getting kind of thin as it is.
