I agree with you... BUT...
It is true that you do not need to spend as much as the Yankees in order to have a good season - but let's be serious. Did you sit on opening day and say to yourself.
"Yep, it is going to be Minnesota Vs Tampa in the World Series this year. I know it will be hard for Tampa to get by Montreal, but I think they can."
You can be thrifty and have good seasons - just not championship ones. I think the disparity in baseball is growing so large that eventually they will have to kill teams. Fans keep bleeding away from the sport because too many teams just have no chance.
Now, take a look at the NFL - a totally healthy sport. They have everything that the player's union is crying would ruin the game, and yet, the NFL is extremely competitive and extremely healthy.
Make no mistake, the player's union cares nothing for the game - only for filling their own pockets.
