1. How Tweak Windows XP for best performance
You may perform the following, but be aware your system may become unstable in which you will have to revert to the default settings. Right click my computer, click on properties. Click on Advanced. Under peformance, click on settings. Under visual effects, select "adjust for best performance". Under the advanced tab make sure "programs" is selected for the processor scheduling and memory usage sections

2. Super-Duper Complex XP Tweaking (ok not that Complex but it very long enjoy!)
Below are services that can be turned off/ disabled within Windows XP. They greatly improve system performance and use a lot less system resources. Please note, you should backup the registry before attempting this - instructions are below. Please use this at your own risk. Mythic Entertainment will not be held responsible for any harm done to your PC.
To take a snapshot of your computer system, go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System restore.
On this screen click create a restore point then click next. On the next screen it will ask you to type in a description of your restore point. Lastly, click on create, and it will save all of your windows settings. Once it has done this, please click on close. Your computer basic settings have now been stored. Please note, you should use the backup utility within Windows XP to completely backup your computer settings.
PLEASE NOTE, every user’s machine is different and although these settings have worked on in-house machines, they are not guaranteed to work on your PC. Please use careful judgment with this guide.
Where to begin: Click on the Windows start button, click on settings, click on control panel click on administrative tools and lastly double click on “services”.
THE SERVICES
If a service is running, please click the STOP button before disabling.
Alerter DISABLE -Notifies users of administrative alerts. Use at your discretion.
Application Layer Gateway Service Automatic - Provides support for 3rd party protocol plug-ins for Internet Connection Sharing and the Internet Connection Firewall. Set on Automatic.
Automatic Updates DISABLE - Enables the download and installation of critical Windows updates. If the service is disabled, the operating system can be manually updated at the Windows Update Web site. You can do this manually by going to windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service MANUAL – Leave this setting the way it is. Many Windows programs use this service without your knowing.
Clip Book DISABLE - Enables Clip Book Viewer to store information and share it with remote computers. If the service is stopped, Clip Book Viewer will not be able to share information with remote computers. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Disable at your discretion.
COM+ Event System DISABLE - Supports System Event Notification Service (SENS), which provides automatic distribution of events to subscribing Component Object Model (COM) components. If the service is stopped, SENS will close and will not be able to provide logon and logoff notifications. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Leave at the default setting..
