Tanking Definition & Ethics
As a longtime veteran of 'sim' baseball, here are my (logical I think) views on tanking: Trading players for better future value is certainly a legit practice. Real teams do it. Sim managers do it more, BUT we trade more in general. That said, I feel it IS inexcusable to intentionally dump games by either playing scrubs over good players or by poor manageing. This is akin to telling your team on the field to throw games. If you are trying to trade a player, and saving playing time for the new manager (for higher value) I think that is also in good faith. But not week after week. I saw this happen in Real1, and it seemed fine, since the manager took over midseason, had a loser, and was actively marketing players. After the deadline I would HOPE the best guys will play. And I think they will. Also, in Real Time Leagues, I would guess that the problem will be much less, since next year values are unknown, as are the remainder of the season being played. I find it far more realistic, even with this years late start date. Does this sound logical? perhaps a statement should be attached to each league page with some basic tenets on etiquette and ethics...
