This is a Very Good Point

Posted By Tim A.

Fred raised a very good point. In addition to the issue of player dispersal there are numerous other issues including reorganization of teams into new divisions after contracting and how to handle the drafts.

I started to write up a detailed plan on all this Saturday but when it reached two pages and I kept thinking of more issues I got tired / frustrated.

These are important issues to iron out.... For example it would really stink if the best three teams in a league got thrown in the same division.

My opinion is that the contraction drafts really need to run in mid-January to stimulate trading this off-season. I think that the rookie & free agent drafts must run with all 24 teams in the draft order.... (to honor traded picks) but that the contracted teams could be set up for a "No pick" (like in Monthly FA draft for teams that have 35 players).

I think there are numerous options for player dispersal depending on how much you want to favor the weak teams.

But any logical solution must give some preference to the weak teams... its just a question of what degree.

Any solution with a forced reallocation draft is a bad one IMO. I'd rather keep my 27 and not draft a single player from the contraction pool than be told I have to give up half of my team against my will.

I think pashions run high. I'd be curious to see people look at their own leagues and see what players are really out there. It may be that assumptions are made on the quality of players that aren't accurate.
