FA draft - ROOKIE draft - PB Limits

Posted By RobG

First: PB values - I've never understood how they are worked. I think too much emphasis is placed on playing time and defensive skills.

As for the PB Cap though, I think 130% of the average is a little high (George like even...).

For 2003 in W9, the average PB value is 71.903. 130% of that is 93.474. This cap would affect NONE of the 20 teams in the league. So it is NOT effective.

A 120% cap is better. That would place the cap at 86.284 which would affect 2 teams in the league only (one team at 93.393 and the other at 89.770). So we are looking at 2-4 extra players either being traded or cut. Not much movement, but better than NO movement at all.

A 115% cap would be 82.688 and would affect 4 teams in the league (20% of all teams) This would see probably 6-8 players floating. I think this maybe a little harsh in the first year however - 120% is better IMHO. Maybe do 120% the first year, 115% the second?

I think the FA draft SHOULD be random. If we were to try to mimic the real leagues, then it should be in REVERSE order of the rookie draft (best teams picking first) because only the successful teams would have enough money to go after big talent (Do you think Montreal could sign A-Rod as a free afent?).

so FA = RANDOM

I have a problem with the Rookie draft though... 8 team lottery? In 20 team leagues that's almost HALF the teams! I understand people want to keep others from "tanking" but at the same time it penalizes teams that legitimately suck. I know, I've been the victim 3 times now. I've lost over 300 games in three years and have yet to have #1 rookie pick, and in fact could even end up picking eighth this year!! I think this should be cut back to a draw among the worst four teams in the league.

Those are my comments!
