Spring Free Agent draft . .
.isn't good for anything. Last year, I took over a team for the first time, in the middle of the year. When the free agent draft came, I was picking third. The two teams ahead of me were both in my division. One of them won 100 games, and the other won the Championship! How can that possibly be good for any league?
Somebody mentioned that it helped trading, but I think its just the opposite. I see first round rookie picks traded all the time, but I have yet to see a first round FA pick dealt. Nobody wants to be the one to deal the first pick in the draft. If everyone knew wnat they worth, they would be dealt more often.
How about this idea: Make the first 8 picks of the free agent draft the inverse of the rookie draft lottery. So, if you won the rookie lottery, you would pick eight in the FA draft, and the eighth rookie would pick 1st, etc. Keep everyone else the same.
