No assists is worse than never played
From a previous post by Mike Bravard, a player who played a secondary position BUT never had an putouts (or assists?) at that position is HORRIBLE whereas if you play someone who NEVER played the position at all, they get the discounted fielding described in the manual.
Thus playing a guy in LF who played there 3 games but with no assists or putouts, will be much worse than playing a RF guy who never played LF but who was say fielding 3 in RF.
NEVER play a guy at a secondary position where he never had any putouts or assists.
Obviously this is one of the fixes needed.
A guy who DID get putouts at a position (as did Menechino?) can be pretty good there even if he didn't play much. For instance, Troy Glaus plays pretty tough SS (both last year and this) with very few innings.
Obviously, this is another fix needed.
